A rare opportunity has arisen for a senior underwriter to join a highly respected insurer within their central underwriting team.


Responsible for Property Class Underwriting Strategy the core functions are to:


Determine the Class Underwriting Strategy
Provide technical guidance on large complex case
Enhance core Underwriting capability of the business to deliver transactional excellence
Manage performance of the account to ensure delivery of the financial objectives of the commercial property UK GI account
Ensure exposures are adequately managed across the account including the reinsurance arrangements
Ensure adequacy of our Underwriting Governance processes
To deliver our core functions the team are engaged with a range of stakeholders across Aviva on a broad spectrum of underwriting issues which include: liaison with product teams to develop trade/ sector specific strategies
Working with their Underwriting Academy to support deliver of technical training and evaluations
In conjunction with Pricing setting base rates to achieve targeted profit over the cycle
Working with claims teams to identify any trends and underwriting strategies to mitigate emerging risks
Ensuring the account is adequately protected by reinsurance including providing support for the treaty renewals
Engagement with Finance and Actuarial teams to project and manage account performance
Setting risk management strategy and implementing risk improvements to reduce exposure
External representation for Aviva on strategic property issues


The right individual will have high level technical knowledge in Property underwriting , knowledge of reinsurance and its applications, knowledge of financial issues relevant to insurance companies, knowledge of socio-economic and legal environment as it effects insurance, the ability to think and act long term both strategically and operationally, knowledge of market issues and dynamics, knowledge of overseas (European) underwriting processes and procedures, excellent communication, presentation, influencing and negotiating skills, the ability to use Microsoft IT suite (Word, Excel,Powerpoint).
