We’re seeking a commercially minded, technically strong underwriting professional to lead a Mid-Market Commercial Property portfolio, driving profitable growth and underwriting excellence across the business. This role isn't hands on case underwriting.
About the Role
As Property Portfolio Underwriting Manager, you will lead the Mid-Market Commercial Property account, shaping underwriting strategy, portfolio mix, and pricing approaches to deliver sustainable performance.
You’ll play a pivotal role in setting underwriting direction, identifying areas for profitable expansion, and ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality outcomes for customers and brokers alike.
This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams — including Pricing, Chief Underwriting Office, Actuarial, Finance, Claims, Automation, and Data Science — as well as engagement with regional underwriting teams to enhance performance and capability across the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Mid-Market Property portfolio, ensuring delivery of financial and underwriting performance targets.
- Develop and execute underwriting strategies that balance growth and profitability.
- Provide technical expertise, coaching, and guidance to underwriters across the business.
- Collaborate with key internal stakeholders to shape commercial decisions and inform P&L outcomes.
- Drive innovation in underwriting quality, risk selection, and pricing to achieve best-in-class customer results.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in commercial property underwriting with strong technical and analytical capability.
- Demonstrated success in portfolio management and enabling growth through data-driven, strategic decision-making.
- Ability to translate complex information into practical actions that support operational effectiveness.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- A strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and adapt to evolving market conditions.
