A small but growing Lloyd’s insurance Broker is recruiting for a Finance Director to play a pivotal role in shaping the financial future of a dynamic boutique in the London Market. This is more than a senior finance role—it's an opportunity to influence strategic decisions, lead a versatile finance function, and work directly with a passionate team committed to excellence and growth in the specialty insurance space.
They are seeking an experienced, hands-on Finance Director to be the backbone of our financial operations, working closely with the Managing Director, Board, and shareholders. This role offers a unique chance for a qualified accountant ready to step into a senior leadership position and make a tangible impact in a close-knit, ambitious team.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the finance function: reporting, control, cash management, regulatory submissions, and strategic analysis.
- Prepare and deliver monthly management accounts, commentary, and reliable financial reports on a fixed timetable.
- Manage balance sheets, controls, reconciliations, and month-end processes, ensuring strong governance.
- Oversee daily cash position, forecasts, working capital, and manage foreign currency exposure, particularly in USD and CAD.
- Handle client money management and regulatory reconciliations, including credit control and settlement processes.
- Ensure statutory accounts, tax compliance, and audit relationships are in excellent order.
- Support commercial decisions: budgeting, re-forecasting, and developing the medium-term financial plan.
- Provide insightful analysis on profitability, pipeline, revenue by territory/currency, and cost structures to the MD and Board.
- Lead finance input for strategic projects: new hires, funding, transactions, and shareholder matters.
- Maintain governance and compliance: regulatory reporting, company secretarial duties, policies, and delegated authorities.
- Manage HR administration, facilities, and oversee financial and operational systems to optimise efficiency.
Must-Have
- Full qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
- Current experience as a Financial Controller or similar, ready for a step-up.
- Proven track record in insurance broking and/or London Market operations, including client money handling and regulatory reporting.
- Confident communicator capable of engaging with senior stakeholders, including MD, Board, investors, auditors, and regulators.
- Pragmatic, commercially curious, and proactive with a can-do attitude and a love for hands-on finance management.
- Ability to work independently in a small team, setting priorities and driving initiatives forward.
This role is a genuine career-defining step—offering ownership, influence, and the chance to lead in a collaborative environment.
